Prepare the cable making sure that a sufficient length of shield is available, so that it fits against the front shoulder of the lip groove. (Fig 1) Before insertion of connector contacts, slide the heat-shrinkable connector boot onto the cable, followed by the braid adaptor. Heat Shrink Connector Boot Braid Adaptor Lip groove Cable Shield Braid Fig 1 3. 4. 5. 6. Position the heat shrinkable boot, braid adaptor, and braid out of the way, and insert the connector contacts. Depending upon the shielding braid size it can either be folded back onto itself or bunched up concertina style out of the way for easy access to the cable conductors. Slide the braid adaptor forward, over the braid, and pull the braid back so it is not trapped under the adaptor. Screw the braid adaptor onto the connector and tighten to the torque value specified in the table below. It is recommended that the connector threads are lubricated with a suitable compound (Rocol Silicone Spray), if a liquid lock is not used. The adaptor should be hand tightened to ensure proper thread alignment and then tightened with a strap wrench or soft jaw pliers and torque meter (Torqueleader ADS 25) to the specified torque. Bring the cable shield braid up onto the adaptor body so that it fits against the front shoulder of the lip groove. Alternatively extend the braid past the lip groove. Note: After assembly, braid can be trimmed with side cutters or folded back and secured with high temperature tape. Create a double wrapped clamp (fig 2) by feeding end of band through narrow slot on buckle twice. Pull on clamp by hand to reduce loop diameter for faster installation on small objects. Squeeze gripper release lever and insert band as far as possible. CAUTION: Never use band as a single wrapped clamp! 1 7/8 DIA’ MAX TIE-DEX CLAMP DOUBLE WRAPPED Fig 2 8. Repeatedly squeeze tension handle until handle locks against tool body indicating correct tension. Always allow tension handle to return to its original position after each stroke. (Fig 3) , (Fig 4). To loosen or remove clamp after tension handle locks against tool body, squeeze tension handle and push tension release lever forward. Let tension handle return to its original position, then use gripper release lever and pull band out. (Fig 5) Completed clamp (Fig 6) may be covered with shrink wrap or tape for protection. Correctly installed clamp must Have full locking lip on all Tie-Dex and Tie-Dex Microbands. If lip is damaged or missing, Re-calibrate tool tension, check Condition of cutter blade and Knife, replace if worn or damaged. Completed Tie-Dex Fig 5 11.
