See p. 13 for details. ■ With a RICOH Extended Depth of Field Camera, shooting is easy! Application example 1 Even angled parts and subjects of varying heights can be captured with one shot when performing optical character recognition (OCR) and circuit board inspection. Conventional camera The camera focus is only on the center, so multiple shots are required for the foreground and background. Stitching of multiple images is also required. Reduced number of shots No postprocessing required RICOH Extended Depth of Field Camera The entire area for inspection is in focus, so one shot is enough. Application example 2 The camera focus and position do not need to be adjusted even when capturing subjects of varying height, such as in processes with stacked printed paper. Conventional camera The camera height must be adjusted either by robotic arm or manually. The camera position is adjusted to match the height of the subject. 07 No equipment or manual work required to reposition the camera Lower total cost RICOH Extended Depth of Field Camera The camera can focus on subjects with different heights without having to be manually adjusted. The camera position remains fixed regardless of the height of the subject. Excluding FL-HC0614-2M Mount Frame Fixing Screw 26 Reference Data Optical Calculations for Close-Up Applications When viewing an object measuring 20 mm per side from a working distance (WD) of 100 mm with a 1/2" format camera (6.4 × 4.8 mm, 1.5 mega pixels) Object d First, calculate the magnification, M, by the following formula. M= −B/A f/M M = −4.8/20=−0.24× (The horizontal screen dimension is automatically decided when the vertical dimension is decided. Therefore, the vertical screen dimension is used here). Obtain a rough idea of the focal length required for your application with the object distance and magnification between the object size and image size by using the following formula: f = −M・O f f Sensor lens A B f =− ((−0.24) ×100)=24 mm According to the calculation a 24 mm lens is required. Then, select one of the closest RICOH lenses to ⊿H O 24 mm: FL-BC2514D-VG, FL-BC2518-VG, FL-CC2514-2M. Since the camera is 1.5 mega pixel, substitute the H2 H1 true focal length of FL-CC2514-2M into the following formula to calculate the overall distance L, by adding I up the figures indicated in the attached table. L L = −f/M+f+f+⊿H−f・M L = − (25.00/(−0.24)) +25.00+25.00+ (−10.51) − (25.00× (−0.24)) L = 104.17+25.00+25.00−10.51+6.00=149.66 Finally, you can get an exact objective distance, O by the following formula (f・M is the length of the extension tube. ) O= L−d+f・M ---f・M O = 149.66−49.53+(25.00× (−0.24))=94.13 Therefore, when viewing an object measuring 20 mm per side on a 1/2" format camera, use the FL-CC2514- A B M f H1 H2 ⊿H d I f・M O 2M and extension tube of 6 mm in length with a WD of 94.13 (about 94 mm). Use a lens with a longer f (focal length) if you want a longer WD, or a lens with a shorter focal length if you want a shorter WD. The point at which the image sensor of the FA camera is positioned is called the focal point. By virtue of design, lenses have 2 principal points, 1st principle point and a 2nd principle point. The distance between the 2nd principle point and the focal point (image sensor) determines to focal length of the lens. 1st principal point Focal length f Focal point/Image sensor Angle of View The angle formed by the two lines from the 2nd principle point and the edges of the sensor is called the angle of view. Therefore, the focal length of the lens is fixed regardless of the image format size of the FA camera. Conversely, the angle of view varies in accordance with the image size. The focal lengths in the catalogue are nominal and the angles of view calculated by the formula referring to the focal lengths are approximate. 2nd principal point θ B 2f θ=2×tan-1 B Focal length f Image sensor F Number f D F number = f = Focal length D = effective diameter (Diameter of entrance pupil) The F number is the index for the amount of light that passes through a lens. The smaller the number, the greater the amount of light. The F number is a ratio between the focal length and the effective aperture as follows. Close-up Application There are two methods for imaging closer than the minimum object distance of a lens. 1) Extension Tube (Macro Ring) See Figure 1 Figure 1 Infinite rays Infinite rays Image sensor Image sensor Finite rays Finite rays χ Image from Imagerays from finite finite rays χ will be The lens The lensthis willmuch be extended extended this much Figure 2 When the rays originate from a finite object distance, the rays are condensed at a point further than the focal point, while the rays from infinite distance are condensed at the actual focal point. The focus adjustment moves the lens barrel toward the object to shift the focusing point at the image sensor. However, the amount of focusing adjustment is mechanically limited as set by the minimum object distance. Extension Tube (Macro Ring) is inserted in between the lens and the camera to shift Note Do not use a extension tube with a zoom lens. 2) Close-Up Lens See Figure 2 The close-up lens has a positive meniscus lens as a supplementary lens. Generally, 3 types of close-up lenses are available, close-up lens No. 1, 2 and 3 have focal lengths of 1,000 mm (1000 mm/1), 500 mm (1,000 mm/2), and 333 mm (1,000 mm/3), respectively. The exposure distance when the distance scale of the lens is infinity (distance from the subject to the close-up lens) is the same as the focal length of the close-up lens. Focusing (extending) on the lens side enables focusing to a closer distance than the minimum object distance of the lens. Focal length of Focal length close-up lensof close-up lens Depth of Field When an object is focused, it is typically observed that the area in front and behind the object is also in focus. The range in focus is called depth of field. When the background is extended to infinity, the object distance (focusing distance) is called the hyper focal distance. Depth of field is calculated by the following formula. T1 = T2 = H= (H × L-f2) H + L - 2f (L (H-2f) +f2) (H - L) f2 C × Fe Fe =(1- M0 = 29 M M0 +f ×F ) Exit Pupil Diameter Entrance Pupil Diameter F = f = L = T1 = T2 = C = F No. focal length object distance(distance from the subject to the primary principle point) near limit far limit circle of least confusion 1" format = 0.030 mm, 2/3" format = 0.020 mm, 1/1.8" format = 0.017 mm, 1/2" format = 0.015 mm, 1/3" format = 0.011 mm Note The values given are reference values given a resolution that is about the same as VGA.
