RPC BDM™ Quick-Start Guide Description This guide provides installation instructions for the RPC BDM (Basic Display Module) P/N: RPCBDM-1000). The RPC BDM connects to the Liebert® RPC™ (Rack PDU Card) and allows the user to locally view PDU, branch and receptacle information about Liebert MPX™ or Liebert MPH™ units. The RPC BDM is not used to control or configure devices. What’s Included The RPC BDM is shipped with: Ethernet Cable with Ferrite Core, 1 Spring Nut, M5, 1 Quick-Start Guide (this document) Spacer Sleeve, 1 Mounting Hardware Special MPX/MPH Screw, 1 Cable Clip, 1 Tools Required: Flat-blade screwdriver Installation Installation requires mounting the RPC BDM and connecting it to the Liebert RPC. The procedures in this document assume that the Liebert PDU and the Liebert RPC are properly installed, connected and configured; refer to documents that shipped with those units for assistance. Step 1 Mount the RPC BDM Determine where to place the RPC BDM, either in the rack or outside it with either the included hardware or a field-supplied cable tie. If the location is not within reach of the factory-supplied Ethernet cable, a longer, field-supplied cable can be substituted. Installing the RPC BDM with a cable tie requires choosing a mounting location and looping the cable tie through the slot on the RPC BDM and around a frame member or other structure. Spring nut installed in T-slot (leaf spring goes on inner side) To mount the RPC BDM with the included hardware: • Determine the mounting location. • Insert a spring nut into a T-slot on the frame member where the RPC BDM will be installed (at right). • Insert the Liebert MPX screw into the spacer sleeve. • Insert the Liebert MPX screw into the spring nut and tighten securely with the screwdriver. • Hang the RPC BDM on the Liebert MPX screw with the hooded mounting slot on the back of the RPC BDM. • Ensure that the end of the Ethernet cable with the ferrite core is installed closest to the Liebert RPC card. 1 T-slot Cable tie fits in small slot on RPC BDM and loops around cabinet frame member or other structure Head of the Liebert MPX Screw fits into hooded slot on back of RPC BDM Step 2 Connect the RPC BDM to the Liebert RPC with an Ethernet Cable The RPC BDM will establish contact with the Liebert RPC automatically after the two are connected with an Ethernet cable. The RPC BDM has only one port, which accepts an Ethernet cable’s RJ-45 connector. The Liebert RPC has four ports; be certain to connect the cable to the correct port on the Liebert RPC (see below). Data is shown immediately after the RPC BDM is connected to the Liebert RPC, if the Liebert RPC is receiving power. The menu is changed with the RPC BDM’s jog wheel, on the top of the RPC BDM (see right). • Roll the jog wheel left or right to move the cursor. • Press the wheel to select the highlighted menu item. Consult the user manual for your Liebert product and for the Liebert RPC for complete details on installing and configuring the RPC BDM with that product. User manuals for Liebert products are available online at www.liebert.com Liebert Rack PDU Family The RPC BDM is compatible with the Liebert Rack PDU family of products: • The Liebert MPX is an Adaptive Rack PDU (power distribution unit) built with modular and scalable components that can be installed and reconfigured on-site to meet varying input and output power connectivity needs. The Liebert RPC (Rack PDU Card) is an optional accessory for the Liebert MPX, but is required for connecting the RPC BDM. • The Liebert MPH is a single unit with fixed capacity, input and output.
