Overview
The National Instruments PPC-2015 is an industrial panel PC with built-in
touch screen. The NI PPC-2105 combines a 2 GHz Pentium 4 proccessor
with a rugged 15 in. touch screen to create a human-machine interface
(HMI) system for NI PACs. When configured with National Instruments
LabVIEW software, it provides a complete HMI solution. It also can
become a versatile measurement and automation workstation when
configured with NI hardware such as industrial PCI-based DAQ boards or
external USB-based DAQ modules. With National Instruments hardware
and software platforms, you can address a wide range of measurement and
automation applications.
Rugged Industrial Design
The PPC-2015 features a stainless steel chassis with an aluminum front
panel. An integrated NEMA4/IP65-compliant touch screen display
eliminates the cabling associated with external monitors, and its flat-panel
technology conserves limited rack and panel space on the plant floor.
The PPC-2015 touch screen display features tempered, antireflective
glass that is also coated to minimize scratching. NEMA4/IP65 compliance
ensures that the unit can meet applications with hose-down requirements.
Unlike commercial PCs, the PPC-2015 features extended shock, vibration,
and temperature ratings plus global safety standards and agency
certifications. To address special application requirements, a rack-mount
kit is available.
Flexible Open Platform
Unlike dedicated visualization platforms such as message displays and
graphics terminals, the PPC-2015 features an open, extensible PC-based
architecture fully compatible with National Instruments and commercial
third-party hardware and software components. Featuring Windows XP,
an internal PCI bus, and a choice of communication buses (serial, parallel,
USB, PCMCIA, and Ethernet), it can be configured to address requirements
beyond traditional HMI applications. When configured with the NI LabVIEW
graphical programming environment and data acquisition, vision, motion,
or PAC hardware, the PPC-2015 provides a complete, ready-to-run solution.

Programmable Automation Controller (PAC)
The PPC-2015 is a PAC platform based on an open-architecture
commercial platform. By using industry standards (for example PCI, USB,
and Ethernet), LabVIEW software, and NI hardware and software
components, the PPC-2015 system provides:

Use LabVIEW to quickly create custom graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
incorporating high-resolution graphics. With LabVIEW, the PPC-2015
becomes a powerful HMI.
HMI with PCI-Based I/O
PCI Plug-In
With LabVIEW and the LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control
Module, you can create a supervisory control and data acquisition
(SCADA) system using FieldPoint or Compact FieldPoint distributed I/O.
Incorporate Ethernet switches from National Instruments Alliance Partners
to integrate plant-floor devices connected to industrial field buses
(for example, DeviceNet). In plant-wide SCADA systems, the PPC-2015
functions as the local HMI device and as a data concentrator that shares
data in real time throughout the enterprise.

Add up to two multifunction DAQ, industrial digital I/O, or industrial vision
boards to create a monitoring and control system. Choose from a broad
selection of PCI plug-in board options to address monitoring and control
applications typically beyond the range of standard PLC-based functionality.

Add motion to your HMI-based system with plug-in PCI motion boards

NI Panel PC Connectivity
The PPC-2015 provides connectivity to a wide variety of external devices
with one Ethernet, five USB, two IEEE 1394, and two RS232 serial ports;
in addition there are two half-length PCI and two PCMCIA Type II slots
available. These connectivity options provide access to a wide range of
NI data acquisition hardware and an Ethernet network (see Figure 6).

Use NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (AI) software to create
basic vision applications. With this software, you can prototype,
benchmark, and deploy vision applications without programming. Quickly

NEMA4 and IP65 Industrial Ratings
The NI family of HMIs – FPT-1015, TPC-2006, and PPC-2015 – all feature
a NEMA4 and IP65 industrial-rated front panel or bezel. When these
systems are panel-mounted in a NEMA4 or IP65 industrial enclosure,
they are capable of withstanding the ingress of dust and water jets.
The NEMA4/IP65 rating makes these systems ideal for harsh
environments on the factory floor, in industrial plants, and for
pharmaceuticals. NEMA4 is a U.S. standard set by the National
Electrical Manufacturer’s Association, and IP65 is a European standard
set by the Institute of Petroleum that defines the water and dust
resistance levels of a product.
