The reference design is ideal for developing a feature-rich, low-cost DVD player. Today, the DVD market is expanding rapidly. DVD titles are being produced in the millions and are spurring the demand for DVD Players. Rental disks are also available. The VaddisPlayer Reference Design provides manufacturers a rapid solution to get into the DVD market with minimal design requirements. The product is based on Zoran’s strong history in the digital video and audio marketplace. Through the StandardPlus™ design methodology, functions such as trickplays, karaoke and 3D audio capability are provided by the Vaddis decoder. and the front panel look and feel are sometimes modified. The main board consists of the Vaddis III decoder, a single 16-Mbit SDRAM, a CPU, CPU Memory, and Audio/Video output logic. This board is the heart of the DVD player. The Vaddis III decoder performs the MPEG-2 Video Decoding for DVD disks and MPEG-1 Video decoding for VideoCD disks. Dolby Digital or MPEG audio streams are decoded, while PCM streams are transmitted to the Audio DAC, and DTS streams to the S/PDIF output. The Vaddis III decoder performs all the decoding functions in addition to the trickplay, karaoke and zoom functions through the control from the CPU. The main board is cost effective and optimized. The VaddisPlayer Reference Design The front end drive uses a parallel data interface with a serial command interface. Overall the VaddisPlayer Reference Design is a cost-effective implementation that is targeted to spur the DVD market by providing a low-cost, feature-rich solution that a customer can take to market immediately. The design of the VaddisPlayer Reference Design uses highquality components for developing a high-quality product. Manufacturers can modify the design to adapt to their existing product line.
