The sensing frequency, internal clock frequency and current consumption are therefore able to be adjustable with R100. For this reason, R100 is connected equivalently by the ground connection of RBIAS Pin in BF, BS and CLK/OFF MODE. (Typical value of C100 is 10nF) BF/BS MODE: TS08 operates obviously in BF mode whether any touch is occurred on CS1 ~ CS8 or system reset phase. Because TS08 try to keep minimum delay to detect any touch. It will change the operation mode to BS if touch is nothing during 500msec. Table1. Page 6/11 Date: 5/9/2006 ADSemiconductor® TS08 (8-CH Auto Sensitivity Calibration Capacitive Touch Sensor) 5.2 CS implementation R200 CS << PAD C200 C200 is connected to adjust the sensitivity. The sensitivity will be increase when C200 value is smaller. It could be useful in case of detail mediation is required. R200 is serial connection to avoid mal function from external surge and noise. The size and shape of PAD might be an influence for the sensitivity. The sensitivity will increase when the PAD size is increase because the frequency variation is bigger. 5.3 Cdeg implementation CDEG << C300 TS08 has internally a standard level to detect the frequency variation for the decision of touching. The standard of output is concluded by connecting capacitance C300 with 3 steps. The value of C300 is represented according to the standard variation level as below Table2 at 3.3V. Table2. CDEG capacitor value vs. sensing Sensitivity Level High Meddle Low CDEG Capacitor 200pF 600pF 1200pF The 8 channels will be followed the sensitivity level which is set by Cdeg pin. It will decide that TS08 is working on single or multi touch detection mode. It should be implemented as below for these. VDD SYNC/OPT << (Single Mode Implementation) SYNC/OPT << (Multi Mode Implementation) 5.4.2 Multi Connection Over two TS08 can be working on the one application at the same time thanks to SYNC function with this pin. The output mode will be fixed by multi touch detection mode automatically on this connection. It should be implemented as below for this. SYNC/OPT << 1st TS08 R400 SYNC/OPT << 2nd TS08 or TS01 ☞ The recommended value of R400 is about 330kΩ. Author: ADSemiconductor Inc. Page 8/11 Date: 5/9/2006 ADSemiconductor® TS08 (8-CH Auto Sensitivity Calibration Capacitive Touch Sensor) 5.5 RESET implementation TS08 has a high reset. It can be controlled by host MCU directly. If not, the circuit should be composed as below figure. The recommended value of R500 and C500 are 1M and 1uF. VDD C500 RESET << R500 5.6 Parallel Output Mode The pull-up resistors should be connected on each output port (See Figure below). It allows giving touched information to host MCU through the 8bit port. The 8bits data indicate touched detection with low level. The capacitor which is connected with CDEG allows changing the sensitivity. (See 4.3 Cdeg implementation chapter) TS08 is reset if RST Pin is high. (See 4.5 Reset implementation chapter) OUT1 ~ OUT8 are open drain output ports. Therefore the pull-up resistor should be needed as above figure. TS08 is working with single output mode if SYNC pin is high and it will be in multi output mode when it’s low. The resistor which is connected with GND should be connected with SYNC pin when the application is required over two TS08 devices. Author: ADSemiconductor Inc.
