BTR TELECOM Test Device for ISDN Installations SiTi Quick and easy testing with four LEDs P/N 130 659-E User Manual SiTi The SiTi is a simple device for testing the installation of an ISDN-S0-connection. Checking of the installation is done by plugging the SiTi into the RJ45 jack. The terminating resistors should not yet be mounted. The four LEDs of the SiTi show the wiring diagram of the four terminating wires for the ISDN-installation. terminal number SiTi 4 5 3 6 1a 1b 2a 2b wire number Error Detection SiTi When testing the wall outlets the LEDs on the SiTi will light as follows: all LEDs light green all wires are connected correctly all LEDs light red all wires have been misconnected all LEDs are off short circuit on the wire pairs or interruption on at least two wires of a pair one or several interruption of such wire of which the related LED is off LEDs are off one or several misconnection of such LEDs light red wire of which the related LED lights red By combining those four LEDs with their different conditions green, red and off, the SiTi can show more than 40 different wiring conditions. The following chart shows some examples. LED auf dem SiTi 1a (4) off 1b (5) 2a (3) Error green green green wire 1a is interrupted green green off red 2b (6) green wire 2a is interrupted green green red wire 1a has been reversed with wire 2b wire1b has been reversed with wire 2b green red green red green red off green wire 1b interrupted, red red red 1. Check of the NTBA Connection First the ISDN connection at the NTBA is checked at normal and at emergency operation. Normal mode means that the NTBA is connected to the 230 V mains. Emergency mode means that the NTBA is not connected to the 230 V mains and the installation is supplied by the Telecom power supply. When the SiTi is plugged into the jacks of the NTBA, the four LEDs light green when the NTBA is working in normal operation, if it is running in the emergency mode all LEDs light red, provided that the NTBA and the attachment are working correctly. red wire 2a connected to terminal 5 instead of terminal 3 all wires are misconnected or the NTBA is running in emergency mode Note: The SiTi is not meant for steady operation. Use it only for testing. 2. Check of the Wall Outlet Installation The NTBA has to run in normal operation and the terminating resistors should not be mounted when the wall outlet installation is tested. The SiTi is plugged in one jack after another (see error chart on the back). BTR Blumberger Telefon- und Relaisbau Albert Metz e. K. Test Completion After completing all tests the terminating resistors are mounted and the ISDN installation can be put into operation. Designed and manufactured by: 1298/100/01/MAMS/899805-01 3. Enhanced Check for S0-Bus Installation If more than one ISDN device is to run at one ISDN installation it is important that wires 2a and 2b are not reversed when terminated. In order to exclude reversal of these two wires, wire 2a is interrupted at the first possibility of the ISDN installation. Now the SiTi should show at each wall outlet the interruption of wire 2a. If it is showing interruption of wire 2b this proves that wire 2a and 2b have been reversed. When all reversals have been detected and corrected, wire 2a can be reterminated.
