Capable of displaying a wide variety of characters/figures on TV screens at high resolution with few external parts attached. Product Overview FUJITSU has just developed MB90050, an onscreen display controller (OSDC) with a built-in NTSC/PAL video signal generation circuit. Conventional OSDCs are used to display information from AV amplifiers, stationary VCRs, etc. on TV screens. With the recent diversification of information to be displayed, there is now a demand for OSDCs capable of more diversified expression and higher quality. To address this demand, FUJITSU mounted an OSDC with a palette register especially intended for analog display. With this feature, the OSDC offers an optional 16-color display instead of the fixed 8-color display (basically 2 monoclonal levels 6 colors) normally offered by conventional products (products with built-in video signal generation circuits). The display area in the transverse direction has also been modified, expanding the maximum display capability up from the conventional 32 characters to 35. This enables support for multi-character displays such as captions. MB90050 has newly incorporated a built-in font RAM for 8 characters-a marked improvement over the basic configuration with only mask ROM (font ROM) in conventional products. This changes makes it possible to display another set of rewritable characters besides mask ROM simply by transferring data from an external memory to the font RAM of the OSDC. In addition to enabling the display of record-programming screens and graphically displayed menu screens, these features give MB90050 the ability to construct/display easy-tounderstand information screens. Video output: 16 optional colors can be set (built-in palette circuit for analog only) Digital output: 16 colors can be selected from 64 colors (built-in palette circuit) ■ Built-in Font ROM Font RAM A total of 512 character types can be used with the font ROM and font RAM configurations. Font ROM: 512 character types (user setup possible for all fields) Font RAM: 8 character types (user command setup possible MB90050 for all fields) Specific 8-character field within the font ROM field can be set to replace the font RAM. ■ Display field consists of up to 35 characters with highquality character display Displays a maximum of 35 characters 16 lines (max. 560 characters). 24-dot 32-dot per one character (high-quality character display).
