The relays are capable of switching ac or dc loads from as little as nanovolts to hundreds of volts. Likewise, the relays can switch currents in the range of nanoamps to hundreds of milliamps. The MOSFET switches are ideal for small signal switching and are primarily suited for dc or audio frequency applications. Vishay offers integrated current limiting on most of its relays. If load current through the relay exceeds the rated value, the relay clamps the current at a predefined value. If the excessive load current persists, the limiting circuit has a fold back feature to minimize relay power dissipation. The current-limit circuit has a multitude of uses. It can be used in telephony to clamp excessive currents emanating from lightning strikes and/or power-main crosses or in instrumentation and industrial application to squelch transients from reactive loads. The current-limit circuit also provides short-circuit protection in power-feed applications. The SSRs feature a monolithic output die that minimizes wire bonds and permits easy integration of high-performance circuits such as current limiting in normally-open switches. The output die contains all the necessary circuitry to perform a relay function, including the photodiode receptor array, turn-on and turn-off control circuitry, and the MOSFET switches. The optically-coupled input is controlled by a highly efficient GaAlAs infrared LED. Vishay SSRs are available in a 4-, 6- or 8-pin throughhole DIP or in surface-mount packages. Some parts are also offered in 4- or 8-pin small-outline packages (SOPs). The SOPs are size and height compatible with PCMCIA Type 2 cards. Refer to the Parts Coding section for a more in-depth description of these parts. www.vishay.com 1 VISHAY Vishay Semiconductors TYPICAL APPLICATIONS • ac Switch • Telephone • Heater Control • Light Control • Switching Systems • Voltmeters • Test Equipment • Service Equipment • E&M Signaling • Multiplexers • Scanners • Motor Controls • Output Modules • Modems • Programmable Controllers • FAX • Data Acquisition Systems • Security Equipment • Electric Meters • Ring Relay • Thermostats • Answering Machines • Battery Switch • Board Testers • Gas Pumps • Appliances Application Flying Capacitor Function Flying Capacitor Switch Equipment Data Acquisition Systems Application Ring Generators Function Square Wave Generator Equipment PBX Central Office Equipment Ring Generator LH1513 LH1513 20 Hz 2 dcV P-P ac dcV +5 V +5 V 20 Hz 17980 Application Telephone Line Interface/SLIC Function Ring Relay Break Switch Ground Start Test Access E&M Signalling Equipment Subscriber Line Interface Circuits PBX Switching Systems Test/Service Equipment (1/2) RING GENERATOR RING ACCESS TIP SECONDARY PROTECTOR AT&T LH1150 Multiplexers Scanners LH1513 BREAK SWITCH LINE FEED RING LH1522 LH1522 LH1504 SENSOR OUTPUT + – GROUND START DATA OUT RING ACCESS (1/2) LH1546 17981 17979 www.vishay.com 2 Document Number: 83852 Rev. 1.2, 03-May-04 VISHAY Vishay Semiconductors Application Lamp, Light, Indicator Control Application Multiplexer Function ac Switch Function Analog Signal Multiplexer Equipment Programmable Controllers Analog Input Module Thermostats Equipment Instrumentation Control Panels Voltmeters Industrial Controls Test Equipment Board Testers Scanners Data Acquisition Systems +5V LOAD +5 V LH1522 μP D E C O D E R LH1522 17982 LH1522 Application Data Access Arrangement (DAA) Function Current-Limited Switchhook Control Equipment Modems LH1522 Security Equipment 17984 Answering Machines Telephones FAX +5 V Thermocouple Switching Function Thermocouple Matrix Control Equipment Scanners Data Acquisition Systems OFF HOOK Programmable Controllers LH1525 FUSE TIP THERMOCOUPLER LH1544 ISOLATED CIRCUITRY RINGDET Application TVS RING VM RING DETECT 17983 LH1544 THERMOCOUPLER 17985 Document Number: 83852 Rev. 1.2, 03-May-04 www.vishay.com 3 VISHAY Vishay Semiconductors Application Alarm Switch Application Motor, Light, Heat, Solenoid Control Function Glass Break Indicator Function Triac Pre driver Fire, Smoke Detector Equipment Industrial Controls Equipment Security Systems Programmable Controllers Fire/Smoke Alarms Factory Automation Equipment Appliances +5 V LH1510 LH 1510 LOAD + TO ALARM TRIAC SENSOR OUTPUT 17986 – 17988 Application Print Head Driver Function Current-Limited Drivers Application Talk/Data Switch Piezoelectric Transducer Function On/Off-hook Control High-Voltage Print Head Equipment Modems Equipment FAX Ink Jet Printers Display Drivers Thermal Printers +5V D DATA MANIPULATION AND LOGIC CONTROL ENABLE D FLIP-FLOP A2 (TIP ) K2 Q B2 (ASSOCIATED PHONE) (RING) (NORMALLY CLOSED) K3 PHONE FUSE A (TIP) LH1513 K1 DELAY ISOLATED CIRCUITRY TVS LH1520 HIGH VOLTAGE +5 V B (RING) PIEZOELECTRIC TRANSDUCER OFFHOOK (PHONE LINE) RING DETECT RINGDET 17989 17987 Application Two-Line PSTN Interface Function On/Off-hook Control Equipment Telephone Equipment Test/Service Equipment LH1503 TIP LINE 1 TIP RING MOV LH1503 RING TIP RING LINE 2 17990 www.vishay.com 4 Document Number: 83852 Rev. 1.2, 03-May-04 VISHAY Vishay Semiconductors Wiring Diagrams ac/dc OUTPUT CONFIGURATIONS SINGLE LOAD 1 6 2 5 1 8 LOAD LOAD 2 6, 7 NC NC SOP 3 +5 V 3 4 LOAD 5 4 LOAD 17991 TWO LOADS 1 2 8 LOAD 1 7 3 6 4 5 LOAD 1 LOAD 2 LOAD 2 17992 dc OUTPUT CONFIGURATIONS SINGLE LOAD - REDUCED RON - INCREASED LOAD CURRENT - REDUNDANCY 1 6 2 5 3 4 + LOAD – LOAD 17993 SINGLE LOAD 1 6 2 5 3 4 + LOAD – LOAD 1 6 2 5 3 4 – LOAD + LOAD 17994 TWO LOADS 1 6 2 5 3 4 + LOAD 1 –LOAD COMMON + LOAD 2 17995 Document Number: 83852 Rev. 1.2, 03-May-04 www.vishay.com 5
