Datasheet OptiDriver™ 100Gbps Transponder Modules Highlights Part of MRV’s comprehensive line of 100Gbps solutions Based on pluggable optics for best-in-class performance and cost Multiple transponder types available depending on the application requirements Built in circuit testing and digital diagnostics capabilities to reduce turn-up time and overall operating costs Compact, low power, and low cost Multiple protocol support Overview The OptiDriver™ product line is the most recent addition to MRV’s comprehensive family of advanced optical transport network elements. Designed to offer the industry’s highest density 10Gbps transport, OptiDriver is also engineered to support the latest advances in optical technologies, including the industry’s most comprehensive line of 100Gbps transport options. OptiDriver is designed from the ground up to reduce capital and operational expenses. A flexible shelf and component architecture dramatically lowers initial and ongoing hardware costs, simplifies operations, and minimizes power and space requirements. Multifunction hardware allows a minimum number of components to serve the maximum variety of applications, including Ethernet, OTN, TDM (T1/E1 to100G), Fibre Channel, ESCON/FICON, Infiniband, and others. Built-in testing and rapid turn up features lower the operational cost of installation and significantly decrease time to revenue. OptiDriver is fully integrated into MRV’s advanced Pro-Vision® service provisioning and management platform, which operates seamlessly in a mixed network of MRV’s Optical and Carrier Ethernet systems. Built-in processing support for current and emerging intelligent control plane technologies like GMPLS and Software Defined Networking allows OptiDriver to quickly integrate into new and existing networks. OptiDriver 100Gbps Solutions All of OptiDriver’s 100Gbps solutions are based on pluggable optics and offer the same multi-function flexibility that is standard in other OptiDriver modules. The exclusive use of pluggable optics (SFP+, QSFP+, and CFP) ensures that OptiDriver’s solutions are optimized for current and future technologies and can immediately take advantage of advances in applications, span budget, and fiber capacity. By focusing on standard interfaces, OptiDriver can interface seamlessly with other standards-based solutions today and as standards progress. The traditional flexibility of MRV’s optical solutions is continued with the OptiDriver 100Gbps solutions, where customers can choose a single set of hardware for use in multiple applications. For example, by choosing the correct line pluggable optics (CFP module) a single 100Gbps card type can be deployed in 100Gbps converter, transponder, and repeater applications. This capability reduces ordering complexity and spares cost and results in an overall reduction in both capital and operational expenses. OptiDriver’s 100Gbps solutions include muxponders that can flexibly combine lower speed signals into a single 100Gbps wavelength as well as a series of 100Gbps transponders designed to meet the needs of a variety of native 100Gbps networks. (For more information on OptiDriver’s 100G Muxponder Solutions, please refer to the 100Gbps Muxponder datasheet.) OptiDriver 100Gbps Transponders OptiDriver’s Transparent Transponder is a 3R regenerator that adds no additional overhead to the signals on the client or line side. This unique card offers the ability to transparently convert from one 100Gbps interface type to another 100Gbps interface type by choosing appropriate pluggable optics (CFPs). Available as a single-width or dual-width card to accommodate optics with differing power dissipation requirements, the 100Gbps Transparent Transponder offers unprecedented density, with up to sixteen 100Gbps transponders and supporting optical hardware (OADM, EDFA, Raman, DCM, etc.) supported in a single 10RU OptiDriver OD-48 chassis. 1 Datasheet OptiDriver’s OTN Transponder includes integrated OTN FEC capability on the transponder, allowing operation over longer distances or in applications requiring ultra-low bit error rates. By integrating FEC onto the card, the OTN transponder allows customers to choose lower cost line optics and still achieve the performance of long-distance components. The OTN transponder also includes an integrated testing function, which can generate and receive a PRBS test signal on demand. This feature greatly reduces the time required to validate and turn up a new service, and is especially valuable at 100Gbps where impairments can create significant difficulties. Additionally, the OTN transponder includes comprehensive digital diagnostic and performance monitoring capabilities for diagnosing network health and predicting network events before they occur. The 100Gbps transponders from MRV offer a choice of pluggable CFP line side optics based on distance and capacity requirements. “Gray” (non-DWDM) optics are typically used in shorter reach applications, operate over a single fiber pair, cannot be combined with other services on the same fiber, and are most appropriate for short distance, dedicated fiber interconnects. Metro DWDM optics operate over four DWDM wavelengths (4x28Gbps) that are a potential solution for operation on a fiber with a mix of other services. Coherent DWDM optics are the most technologically advanced and offer benefits on dispersion management, signal reach, and other optical properties. Coherent DWDM optics can greatly increase the capacity and reach of an optical network.
