Datasheet OptiDriver™ Multi-Degree ROADM Module Highlights 4 degree WSS-based ROADM Gridless, colorless, and directionless Multiple module types to meet customer network needs Hitless topology changes Built in per-wavelength power monitoring and attenuation Compact footprint and low power consumption Overview The OptiDriver™ product line is the most recent addition to MRV’s comprehensive family of advanced optical transport network elements. Designed to offer the industry’s highest density 10 Gbps transport, OptiDriver is also engineered to support the latest advances in optical technologies, including intelligent ROADM networks and 100 Gbps transport. OptiDriver is designed from the ground up to reduce capital and operational expenses. A flexible shelf and component architecture dramatically lowers initial and ongoing hardware costs, simplifies operations, and minimizes power and space requirements. Multifunction hardware allows a minimum number of components to serve the maximum variety of applications, including Ethernet, OTN, TDM (T1/E1 to100G), Fibre Channel, ESCON/FICON, Infiniband, and others. Built-in testing and rapid turn up features lower the operational cost of installation and significantly decrease time to revenue. OptiDriver is fully integrated into MRV’s advanced Pro-Vision® service provisioning and management platform, which operates seamlessly in a mixed network of MRV’s Optical and Carrier Ethernet systems. Built-in processing support for current and emerging intelligent control plane technologies like GMPLS and Software Defined Networking allows OptiDriver to quickly integrate into new and existing networks. Dynamic Networks OptiDriver’s multi-degree reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) modules extend the flexibility of OptiDriver to the optical layer by adding dynamic reconfigurability of wavelengths. Designed to make routing wavelengths as easy as routing circuits, the ROADM modules are simple to use but provide powerful features. By enabling dynamic optical transport solutions, ROADMs can significantly decrease operating costs and increase revenue potential above the ability of traditional static networks. 1 Datasheet ROADM-based dynamic optical transport solutions are essential for network applications where changeable traffic patterns and projections make advance wavelength planning difficult or where network demands make static wavelength design inefficient. Networks that are growing and adding large sites or customers can easily expand and rapidly add capacity through the use of a dynamic optical transport network. Network operators that need to move large amounts of bandwidth from one route to another on a regular or irregular basis can avoid expensive overbuilding of their network through the installation of a dynamic optical transport network. Ring-based ROADM network OptiDriver Multi-Degree ROADM Modules The OptiDriver WSS-based ROADM modules provide a complete state-of-the art, gridless, colorless, and directionless multi-degree ROADM node implementation. When appropriately applied to the right application and network section, they can provide service operators with the full flexibility, efficiency, and control that are required in today’s dynamic optical networks. Offering four degrees of flexibility, the OptiDriver ROADM modules allow network operators to provision a ROADM node that can support up to two complete, independent optical rings or a multi-degree optical mesh network. Combine and Route Select and Broadcast Passively combine wavelengths from drops Select wavelengths from each degree to build output Transmit selected wavelengths to each of 4 degrees Broadcast all input wavelengths to all 4 degrees 2 Datasheet Multiple module types are available depending on the network requirements, including select and broadcast and combine and route. For most operations, the Select and Broadcast modules (OD-WSS4DWS) are appropriate, and allow operators to build a complete, flexible wavelength routing network. In locations where more than one Select and Broadcast ROADM module is required, MRV offers a Dual-Sided Select and Broadcast module (OD-DWSS4DWS) that combines two Select and Broadcast card with a shared optical channel module for lower cost. The Combine and Route ROADM module (OD-DWSS4DWS) can be combined with one of the Select and Broadcast modules in networks where the operator wishes to build colorless capabilities into a node. Two Degree Directionless ROADM Node Integrated per-wavelength channel monitoring allows the operator advanced insight into the operation of the optical layer, and integrated per-wavelength variable optical attenuation (VOA) ensures a flat spectrum and predictable operation across multiple nodes with multiple inputs. Advanced optical technology ensures that changing the network by adding or moving wavelengths is hitless on all existing services. The small footprint of the OptiDriver ROADM modules is designed to allow the modules to be economically integrated into the OptiDriver chassis along with all other required cards (transponders, amplifier, mux/demux, etc.), resulting in a lower total cost of ownership, lower cost of real estate, and lower cost of power. The OptiDriver ROADM modules, as with all OptiDriver modules, are fully supported by MRV’s Pro-Vision service delivery and provisioning system, allowing simple operation and full integration with all of MRV’s optical and Carrier Ethernet product lines. 3 Datasheet Operating Specifications Optical Parameter Operating Wavelength/ Frequency Range Minimum Typical Maximum Unit 1528.579/196.125 - 1566.928/191.325 nm/THz WSS Increment BW - 25.0 - GHz WSS Increment Center Frequency - 6.5 - GHz WSS Number of Channels 1 - 96 50 GHz WSS Type of Switching (WSS) - Hitless - - Splitter 1 x 4 WSS Insertion Loss - 7.0 7.5 dB - 5.6 6.8 dB WSS Dynamic Attenuation Range 0 - 20 dB WSS Attenuation Step Size - - 0.1 dB WSS Process (Switching) Time - 300 1,000 ms Physical Parameters Operating Temperature 0°C to 65°C (32°F to 149°F) Storage Temperature -40°C to 70°C (-40°F to 158°F) Relative Humidity 85% maximum, non-condensing OD-WSS4DSW Physical Dimensions (HxWxD) Weight Power consumption (max) Regulatory Compliance OD-WSS4DCW OD-DWSS4DWS 214 mm x 25.4 mm x 225 mm (8.5”x 1.0” x 9.0”) 214 mm x 25.0 mm x 225 mm (8.5”x 2.0” x 9.0”) 1.4 kg (3.1 lb) 2.3 kg (5.0 lb) 28 W 46 W FCC Part 15, Class A; IC, Class A; EMC Directive: Emission (Class A) and Immunity; WEEE Directive: Wheelie Bin Mark; RoHS 2 Directive; China RoHS MRV operates Worldwide sales and service offices across four continents.
