Overview
The OptiDriver™ product line is the most recent addition to MRV’s comprehensive family of advanced optical transport
network elements. Designed to offer the industry’s highest density 10 Gbps transport, OptiDriver is also engineered to
support the latest advances in optical technologies, including intelligent ROADM networks and 100 Gbps transport.
OptiDriver is designed from the ground up to reduce capital and operational expenses. A flexible shelf and component
architecture dramatically lowers initial and ongoing hardware costs, simplifies operations, and minimizes power and
space requirements. Multifunction hardware allows a minimum number of components to serve the maximum variety of
applications, including Ethernet, OTN, TDM (T1/E1 to 100G), Fibre Channel, ESCON/FICON, Infiniband, and others. Built-in
testing and rapid turn up features lower the operational cost of installation and significantly decrease time to revenue.
OptiDriver is fully integrated into MRV’s advanced Pro-Vision® service provisioning and management platform, which
operates seamlessly in a mixed network of MRV’s Optical and Carrier Ethernet systems. Built-in processing support
for current and emerging intelligent control plane technologies like GMPLS and Software Defined Networking allows
OptiDriver to quickly integrate into new and existing networks.
OptiDriver 100G Solutions
OptiDriver’s 100 Gbps solutions are based on pluggable optics and offer the same multi-function flexibility that
is standard in other OptiDriver modules. The exclusive use of pluggable optics (SFP+, QSFP+, and CFP) ensures that
OptiDriver’s solutions are optimized for current and future technologies and can immediately take advantage of
advances in applications, span budget, and fiber capacity. By focusing on standard interfaces, OptiDriver can interface
seamlessly with other standards-based solutions today and as standards progress.
All 100 Gbps solutions from MRV offer a choice of pluggable CFP line side optics based on distance and capacity
requirements. “Gray” (non-DWDM) optics are typically used in shorter reach applications. Gray optics operate over a
single fiber pair, cannot be combined with other services on the same fiber, and are most appropriate for short distance,
dedicated fiber interconnects. Metro DWDM optics operate over four DWDM wavelengths (4 x 25 Gbps) and are a
potential solution for operation on a fiber with a mix of other services. Coherent DWDM optics are the most technologically
advanced and offer benefits on dispersion management, signal reach, and other optical properties. Coherent DWDM
optics can greatly increase the capacity and reach of an optical network.
100G Multiprotocol Multirate Muxponder
The OptiDriver 100G Multiprotocol Multirate Muxponder is optimized for high-capacity optical transport networks
migrating to 100G and data center or enterprise networks with significant investment in 10G and 40G router ports. The
muxponder supports a wide variety of client services and protocols, including 40G LAN, 10G LAN/WAN, STM64/OC-192,
and 8G/10G Fibre Channel. OptiDriver’s 100 Gbps muxponder card cost-effectively supports an arbitrary mix of 10 Gbps
and 40 Gbps client interfaces, up to a total of 100 Gbps. For customers with a large number of 10 Gbps services in their
network, the 100Gbps muxponder is an efficient way to combine ten 10 Gbps services into a single 100 Gbps service on
the line side. For customers with a mix of 40 Gbps and 10 Gbps services, the 100 Gbps muxponder can flexibly carry any
mix of services without the need to pre-plan the network or replace hardware for different mixes.

Datasheet
The 100G CFP-based 100G aggregated interface allows MRV’s 100G Muxponder to cover a wide variety of applications
ranging from multi-protocol aggregation over a dedicated fiber using 100GBase-LR4 or 100GBase-ER4 CFPs to complex
DWDM networks employing metro or coherent CFP pluggable transceivers. By designing the 100G interface around
standard CFP optics, the 100G Muxponder can take advantage of technical innovations in the rapidly changing 100G
optics market. Rather than forcing network operators to make a 100G optics decision today that will be expensive to
change, 100G pluggable optics give network operators the ability to adapt with changing technology.
MRV’s 100G muxponder offers a range of performance monitoring and enhancement features to make deployment and
network planning simple. A choice of FEC encoding allows network operators to optimize designs for distance, BER, or
latency. Comprehensive performance monitoring is available at the OTN layer, the client interfaces, and through digital
diagnostics on the pluggable optics. The 100G muxponder also offers a built-in testing capability that can generate and
analyze a PRBS test signal. Coupled with the ability to initiate loopbacks at all optical interfaces, this capability allows
network operators to set up and test their 100G solutions definitively and quickly, significantly reducing startup time
and time to market.
Exceptionally low density and power consumption allows the OptiDriver 100G Muxponder to meet market demands
for rack space savings and efficient power consumption, resulting in lowered total cost of ownership.
