The IC supplies a current via a high side MOSFET to the excitation coil of the alternator and provides an internal freewheeling diode. It keeps the battery at its nominal charge and delivers current to electrical devices within the vehicle. The TC80310 also provides a load response control mechanism (LRC), and has an interface for the industry standard LIN protocol (Revision 1.3) to allow an ECU to control the regulated voltage and the LRC rate, among other parameters. The ECU also can read back information about the status of the regulator and the alternator via LIN. It can be programmed for most functions using OTP (Non-volatile Memory) and fit a large number of alternators and applications. 1.5 μF/2.2 μF Stator B+A PH1 LIN PH2 SGND EXC GND TC80310 Rotor Coil Battery + - Alternator Performance Typical Value RDSON Field TMOS at lexc = 5.0 A and TJ = 140 °C 80 mΩ Maximum EXC current at TJ = 25 °C Quiescent current at TJ = 25 °C with phases = 0 EXC short-circuit protection Operating Voltage ESD (HBM) Junction Operating Temperature 8.0 A <110 μA 9.0 A 8.0 V ≤ VB + A ≥ 27 V ±6.0 kV (except phase inputs at ±5.0 kV) -40 °C ≤ TJ ≥ 150 °C Features • Integrated high side excitation driver (field) • Internal freewheeling diode Protection Protection Detect Auto Retry Status Reporting EXC Shutdown • Rotor excitation coil up to 8.0 A Over-voltage • • • Load response control (LRC) Load Dump • • Over-temperature, Level 1 • • Over-temperature, Level 2 • • EXC Short-circuit • • LIN Over-current • • • Thermal protections • Thermal compensation • Robust LIN 1.3 interface • Selectable regulation voltage from 10.6 V up to 16 V (programming at Freescale) • Rotor control and die temperature monitoring via LIN communication • Self-start operation available (in case of LIN disconnection) Ordering Information • Multiple adjustments capability for Loop regulation (internal ramp, digital filter) Device Benefits TC80310AWS • Reduces voltage regulation at high temperature to avoid thermal runaway • Configurable product option to ease selfstart at 4000 RPM • Inhibit by LIN communication the excitation current on system demand • Specific LIN conformance item • 0 ppm target performance improvement • • • Temperature range (TA) Package -40 °C ≤ TJ ≥ 150 °C Die TO3 - Contact sales for information on limited engineering sample quantities.
