ABOUT WJ
WJ History
WJ Communications is the commercial products
descendent of Watkins-Johnson Company. WatkinsJohnson Company, founded in 1957,designed
and manufactured quality microwave components,
subsystems, and systems for the defense marketplace
for four decades. WJ’s telecommunications products
began in 1995 as an intrapreneurial activity, with the
goal of combining WJ’s technical expertise coupled
with cost-effective design and advanced packaging
technologies commensurate with the commercial
marketplace. Sales grew rapidly due to the company’s
well-founded reputation for quality and performance.
A key decision was made in 1997 to refocus the
company on commercial telecommunications, and
over the next three years other activities in defense
electronics, intelligence, and semiconductor capital
equipment were sold. A recapitalization merger
with Fox-Paine was completed on January 31, 2000.
Today,WJ Communications, Inc. is a leading pure-play
semiconductor company focusing on the design and
manufacture of high-quality, innovative devices and
multi-chip modules (MCM’s) for telecommunications
systems worldwide, including COTS devices for the
defense market. WJ’s high reliability amplifier, mixer,
RFIC and MCM products are used to transmit and
receive signals that enable current and next generation
digital wireless and wireline services.

VARIABLE GAIN AMPS
The VG series are high dynamic-range variable gain amplifiers for the cellular, PCS and UMTS bands. The high output compression
and output intercept points of the amplifiers are maintained over the entire attenuation range, making them ideal for use in transmitter
and receiver AGC circuits or as a variable gain stage following an LNA in high dynamic range receiver front ends. Superior thermal
design allows these devices to have minimum MTTF ratings of at least 100 years at a mounting temperature of +85°C.

DOWNCONVERTERS
The CV family is designed to meet the performance, functionality and cost goals of current and next generation mobile infrastructure base
stations. By combining low noise figure and high-linearity in a low-cost QFN package, the CV series highlight WJ’s new multi-chipmodule (MCM) semiconductor technology. These dual-branch converters combine a limiting LO driver that can be operated directly
from a synthesizer and RF chains consisting of a MMIC mixer and IF amplifier in a 6x6 mm QFN package. Typical applications
include frequency downconversion used in CDMA/GSM/TDMA, CDMA-2000, W-CDMA, and EDGE 2.5G and 3G mobile base
transceiver stations.

NEW PRODUCTS COMING SOON
WJ is introducing a new line of single-branch multi-chip modules (MCM’s); two new CATV amplifiers and a new GaAs MMIC gain
block for telecommunication systems. Each product continues WJ’s legacy of leading technology, high performance, reliability, value
and quality. Please direct your application and availability questions to: [email protected], and refer to our web site
at www.wj.com to view product data sheet specifications on existing products. Contact WJ directly at (800) 951-4401 for preliminary
information on the following new products.
DOWNCONVERTERS
WJ expands its CV product family with these single-branch converters. These converters combine all the functions of an LO limiting
driver, a MMIC mixer and RF and IF amplifiers in a 6x6 mm QFN package. Typical applications include frequency downconversion
used in CDMA/GSM/TDMA, CDMA-2000, W-CDMA, and EDGE 2.5G and 3G mobile base transceiver stations for cellular frequency
bands. The CV down converters can also be used in pre-distortion circuitry for high-power amplifier error correction loops.

CATV AMPLIFIERS
WJ is introducing two new amplifiers for CATV: the AG606 and AH123. WJ’s AG606 is a dual amplifier configured for push-pull
operation. HBT technology is used for cost-effective low distortion amplification. The AG606 is ideal for low to moderate power,
outside-plant applications and low-power, headend applications such as linear laser drivers.
The AH123 is a high-dynamic range amplifier for CATV and related applications. This device is ideal for headend applications such
as analog or digital channel cards, CMTS, and laser drivers, as well as high-power outside plant devices.

GaAs MMIC GAIN BLOCK
WJ expands its RF amplifier product family with the AG102. The AG102 is a general-purpose gain block that offers good dynamic
range and low noise figure in a low-cost surface-mount package. The combination of flat OIP3 and low noise figure performance
over frequency makes it attractive for both narrowband and broadband applications.
