The IC is a PWM driver/controller to drive 6 N-channel power-FETs. The 6 driver outputs are designed to allow PWM switching up to 60kHz. The rotor position is detected by the patented VirtuHall® principle from zero to idle speed. This chip is designed for automotive application or general purpose motor drive application with supply voltages up to 27V. The E981.15 can be used in combination with a μC or standalone to drive a BLDC motor by controlling the power FETs of three half bridges. Position information of the rotor is provided via an SPI readable register. The setpoint of an external regulator is forced via the SPI interface and the actual position of the motor is given back to the μC. The configuration of the programmable parameters is executed via an SPI. An extensive protection system prevents the external MOSFETs from damage.
