President: Hiroshi Takeuchi High-precision, narrow-deviation, fast oscillation start-up 32.768 kHz crystal clock oscillator for use in high-temperature operating environments developed (2520 size) Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd. has developed a high-precision crystal clock oscillator (NZ2520SG; 2.5 × 2.0 × 0.9 mm) that can be used at temperatures as high as +105°C. Personal digital assistants (PDAs) such as smartphones and tablet computers along with a variety of other electronic devices are required to reliably operate outdoors and in environments with adverse temperature conditions. To meet this need, a crystal clock oscillator that provides a stable clock signal at 32.768 kHz is required for accurate timekeeping in such devices. Conventionally, to provide frequency clock signals, the tuning folk crystal unit is used. However, there are limitations to the level of improvement in terms of temperature characteristic and accuracy of frequency. In response to today’s needs, Nihon Dempa Kogyo used its propriety technology to develop a new oscillator based on an AT cut crystal oscillator (as opposed to the tuning fork type) featuring outstanding temperature and accuracy properties. The new oscillator’s maximum allowable operating temperature of +105°C (substantially higher than the conventional +85°C) supports its use in a wide range of temperature conditions (between -40°C and +105°C). It has higher precision, less deviation (max. ±50 ppm), faster oscillation start-up (Typ. 1 ms) and substantially lower current consumption for battery-type PDAs than tuning fork crystal units. Product sample delivery is currently in the planning stage, and the start of mass production is scheduled for this month.
