The card provides easy-to-install protection for up to four systems connected to a single UPS: computers with Liebert MultiLink™ software installed or AS/400 system units. The systems can simultaneously monitor the UPS status—utility power failure and low battery. This advanced power-management device is designed to function in the Liebert IntelliSlot port of the following UPS units: • Liebert Nfinity™ • Liebert NX™ • Liebert UPStation GXT3™ Note: The Liebert PSI is not supported. Connected Liebert MultiLink AS/400 computers and AS/400 system system units can interpret the signal units and initiate operating system shutdown according to configurations determined by the user. A straight-through RJ45 Ethernet cable is needed to connect the Liebert UPS to an adapter on a Liebert MultiLink computer or an AS/400 system unit. See the Liebert MultiLink user manual for operation of this feature. 1 Introduction Inspecting Shipment on Receipt Upon accepting shipment, inspect the packaging and product for any damaged or missing parts. If any damage is observed, report it to the shipping company and your local Emerson Network Power representative. If any components are missing, contact your local representative for replacement. Items included with the shipment are: • Liebert IntelliSlot MultiPort card protected by an anti-static bag • User manual Required Adapter Kits The following adapter kits are available separately from Emerson Network Power. These kits contain adapters required for connecting an RJ45 cable to a Liebert MultiLink computer or an AS/400 system unit. Required Parts and Tools Make sure you have the following parts and tools before you begin. • Liebert IntelliSlot MultiPort card (provided) • #2 (medium) Phillips or small flathead screwdriver 2.1 Connect the Liebert IntelliSlot MultiPort Card 1. Locate the Liebert IntelliSlot port on the UPS, which is on the rear of some units, as shown in the examples below. Refer to your UPS user manual for port location and orientation. Liebert IntelliSlot MultiPort card Remove screws 2. Remove the two retaining screws from the Liebert IntelliSlot port cover plate on the UPS. Save the screws for reassembly in Step 4. 3. As you insert the card, make sure the holes are aligned with those on the UPS. Initially, the card should slide in freely as you carefully align screw holes. As you feel it click into place, press firmly to ensure solid seating in the slot. 4. Use the screwdriver to secure the Liebert IntelliSlot MultiPort card to the UPS chassis with the two retaining screws removed in Step 2. Make sure the screws are snug, not tight, to avoid damage to the device. 3 Installation 2.2 Connect the UPS to a Liebert MultiLink computer Connect the UPS and Liebert MultiLink computer as follows. For complete details, see the Liebert MultiLink Cable Adapter Kit, MLADPT, installation instructions (SL-31097). 1. Connect the ML-ADP-04 adapter Figure 2 RJ45 connections: (included in the kit) to the serial Liebert MultiLink computer to UPS communication port on the MultiLink computer (see Figure 2). Computer with Liebert MultiLink 2. Connect one end of a properly configured RJ45 cable to the adapter. A straight-through RJ45 Ethernet cable will work. 3. Connect the other end of the RJ45 cable directly to an RJ45 port on the Liebert IntelliSlot MultiPort on the UPS. ML-ADP-04 to serial port on MultiLink computer RJ45 cable to adapter ML-ADP-04 IS-MULTIPORT Refer to the Liebert MultiLink user manual (SL-53625), for software installation and configuration procedures. UPS status polling failure (i.e., ON BATTERY message is not transmitted when AC failure occurs) may be caused by either software or hardware error. It is highly recommended that you first attempt to troubleshoot the problem (see troubleshooting recommendations in the Liebert MultiLink user manual). 4 RJ45 cable to RJ45 port on IS-MULTIPORT Installation 2.3 Connect the UPS to an AS/400 System Unit Connect the UPS and AS/400 system as follows. For complete details, see the Liebert AS/400 Cable Adapter Kit, AS400ADPT, installation instructions (SL-31096). 1. The kit includes two types of AS/400 adapters. Select the appropriate adapter from the kit: • AS-ADP-01 for connection to a legacy AS/400 Figure 3 RJ45 connections: AS/400 system to UPS AS/400 • AS-ADP-02 for connection to an i5 Series AS/400 2. Connect the adapter to the UPS port on the AS/400 (see Figure 3). 3. Connect one end of a properly configured RJ45 cable to the adapter. A straight-through RJ45 Ethernet cable will work.
