R.F. Point Level Sensor
The Kotron Series 811 R.F. Point Level Sensor can be
used as a single relay alarm (narrow differential) or control
(wide differential) device which utilizes R.F. Capacitance
technology for sensing liquids or bulk materials. There are
no moving parts which come in contact with the medium.
Handles temperatures up to 540°C when
remote mounted
FEATURES
* Electronics offer alarm (narrow differential) and control
(wide differential) capabilities making this unit ideal for
a wide variety of applications.
* Guard circuitry and probe reject build-up of conductive
media.
* Circuitry is designed and tested to meet IEC electrostatic
discharge specification 801-2.
* Usable with all Kotron probes for application flexibility.
* Remote mounting up to 45 m (150 ft) with no
preamplifier on the probe ensures protection from
high process temperatures or heavy vibration.
* 10A DPDT relay yields flexibility for most alarm and
control schemes.
* LED shows the status of the relay and aids in calibration
and trouble-shooting.
* 0 to 120 second time delay feature eliminates relay
chatter due to turbulence.
* Field selectable high level/low level failsafe provides
NO or NC contacts in de-energized state for either
failsafe condition.
* Cast aluminum, anti-corrosive painted enclosure is
rated CENELEC (IP 65), NEMA 4X (type 4 CSA),
NEMA 4X/7/ 9.
* Conformally coated circuit boards reduce circuit problems due to moisture and fungus.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The amount of capacitance developed in any vessel, is determined by the size (surface area) of the probe, the distance from
the probe to its ground reference, and the dielectric constant of
the medium it is measuring.
Assuming that the probe's mounting position and the
dielectric of the medium are fixed, the amount of capacitance
developed in any vessel becomes dependent upon the probe's
diameter and length to determine its surface area. Adjusting the
combination of the probe's diameter and length (and its proximity
to the ground reference) in any given application, can generate
the necessary capacitance required by the electronic circuitry.
As the media rises and falls in the tank, the amount of capacitance
developed between the sensing probe and the ground reference
also rises and falls.
This change in capacitance is converted into a pulse waveform
proportional to the level change. The amplifier then compares the
pulse waveform to the adjustable set point and changes the state
of a relay when they are equal.

The Kotron Series 811 incorporates standard features
which are optional features on many competitors devices:
① Rejection of conductive build-up by guarded probe and
circuit.
② Ability to handle alarm (narrow differential) and
pump/valve control (wide differential) in one unit.
③ Time delay eliminates the effect of relay chatter due to
surface turbulence.
④ The unit does not require a preamplifier on the probe for
elevated temperature.
