Usage Tips This industrial gateway is used to connect stations, with moderate to large amounts of SixTRAK I/O, to single or redundant Ethernet networks. Use the 10/100BaseT port as the primary Ethernet port. You can use the 10BaseT port as a secondary Ethernet port or as a port for connecting a single EtherTRAK I/O module or multiple EtherTRAK I/O modules (through an Industrial Ethernet Switch). For small stations you can use a single EtherTRAK I/O module with one or more RemoteTRAK I/O modules connected to the EtherTRAK module’s RS485 port. Stations of more than 16 or 32 channels are better handled with a combination of this gateway and SixTRAK modules. Only one Ethernet tap is needed to connect up to 1024 SixTRAK I/O points. The Ethernet ports will respond to Modbus or Sixnet protocol. The RS232 port may be used for configuration and diagnostics, adding expansion I/O or Modbus devices, or as an alternative means of accessing the I/O registers in the ET-GT-ST-3. The Ethernet ports and the RS232 port may be used simultaneously. Use the I/O Transfers window in the optional SCS feature set of the Sixnet I/O Tool Kit software when you are interfacing to EtherTRAK I/O, RemoteTRAK I/O or Modbus RS232 / RS485 devices. This gateway also polls SixTRAK modules and makes the I/O available to requests from many Windows applications. Use the Sixnet OPC Server, Modbus OPC Server or the Modbus/TCP driver in your HMI or SCADA software when you are interfacing to Modbus devices or Sixnet stations configured for Sixnet or Modbus protocol.
