µ PD72891,72893 IEEE1394 Link Layer Controller with DV Codec Description The µPD72891 and 72893 are a IEEE1394 link layer controllers developed for digital AV systems and feature an onchip 32-bit RISC CPU (V850E) for IEEE1394 processing. These link layer controllers have two stream interface channels to transmit/receive image data conforming to the IEC61883 Standard, such as MPEG and DV, and these channels can be independently used for transmission and reception. In addition, a total of 8 Kbytes of FIFO buffer space is provided to transmit/receive isochronous signals. This buffer space can be allocated as transmit and receive FIFO buffers in 2 Kbytes units. The µPD72891 and 72893 support IEEE1394 bus control and AV/C commands via the on-chip CPU, as well as external control using either a serial or a parallel interface. Features • All functions required for Digital AV 1394 interface are equipped in a single-chip • On chip 32-bit RISC CPU • Copy Protection circuit equipped (the µPD72891 only) • Full duplex MPEG/DV transmission supported • On-chip IEC61883 function • • • • Compliant to IEEE1394-1995 and IEEE1394a-2000 Supports 400 Mbps, 200 Mbps, 100 Mbps speed 3.3 V/2.5 V power supply Package : 208-pin QFP PHY PHY Link I/F Link Core IEC61883 & Copy Protection ISO Stream I/F IEEE1394 Bus Block Diagram of the µPD72891 IEC61883 & Copy Protection Async I/F CSR Async Async Tx FIFO Rx FIFO 2 KB 2 KB DV Decoder Encoder Bus Controller SIO, Port, Timer… UART I/F TS I/F 27 MHz TS_CLK REC656 (8 bits) TS I/F MPEG2 Decoder MPEG2 Encoder PCM Serial I/F Link I/F CPU NB85E ROM:192 KB RAM: 60 KB MPEG TS I/F (8 bits) HOST I/F VCLKI/MCK44/MCK48 VCLKO/MCKO 16M SDRAM CPU I/F (68k / ISA) System controller can select either. No license, express, implied or otherwise, is granted under any patents, copyrights or other intellectual property rights of NEC or others. • Descriptions of circuits, software and other related information in this document are provided for illustrative purposes in semiconductor product operation and application examples. The incorporation of these circuits, software and information in the design of customer's equipment shall be done under the full responsibility of customer. NEC assumes no responsibility for any losses incurred by customers or third parties arising from the use of these circuits, software and information. • While NEC endeavours to enhance the quality, reliability and safety of NEC semiconductor products, customers agree and acknowledge that the possibility of defects thereof cannot be eliminated entirely. To minimize risks of damage to property or injury (including death) to persons arising from defects in NEC semiconductor products, customers must incorporate sufficient safety measures in their design, such as redundancy, fire-containment, and anti-failure features. • NEC semiconductor products are classified into the following three quality grades: "Standard", "Special" and "Specific". The "Specific" quality grade applies only to semiconductor products developed based on a customer-designated "quality assurance program" for a specific application. The recommended applications of a semiconductor product depend on its quality grade, as indicated below. Customers must check the quality grade of each semiconductor product before using it in a particular application. "Standard": Computers, office equipment, communications equipment, test and measurement equipment, audio and visual equipment, home electronic appliances, machine tools, personal electronic equipment and industrial robots "Special": Transportation equipment (automobiles, trains, ships, etc.), traffic control systems, anti-disaster systems, anti-crime systems, safety equipment and medical equipment (not specifically designed for life support) "Specific": Aircraft, aerospace equipment, submersible repeaters, nuclear reactor control systems, life support systems and medical equipment for life support, etc. The quality grade of NEC semiconductor products is "Standard" unless otherwise expressly specified in NEC's data sheets or data books, etc. If customers wish to use NEC semiconductor products in applications not intended by NEC, they must contact an NEC sales representative in advance to determine NEC's willingness to support a given application. (Note) (1) "NEC" as used in this statement means NEC Corporation and also includes its majority-owned subsidiaries. (2) "NEC semiconductor products" means any semiconductor product developed or manufactured by or for NEC (as defined above). M8E 00. 4
