Illumination is achieved by means of six arrays of seven LEDs fitted around the circumference of a reflector. Iternally, there is a fully encapsulated, switch mode, power supply unit, an EMC filter unit and an LED cable loom which is connected to the PSU via a two-pole make/break connector. The equipment may be terminated using either the integral cable alone, which is terminated with an ‘EEx e’ cable gland manufactured by HAWKE International (Part Number 501/421/0/½” NPT), or may be additionally protected using conduit. The obstruction light can be terminated with or without the use of conduit. R52A15401A Comment The release of the prime certificate. 15 SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR SAFE USE 15.1 The enclosure of the Obstacle Light uses non-conducting parts that could generate an ignition-capable level of electrostatic charges under certain extreme conditions, however, because this equipment is used as a warning light to mark any obstacle that may provide a hazard to aircraft navigation, in practice the risk of electrostatic hazard caused by the equipment has been assessed as being low, nevertheless, cleaning of the equipment shall only be done with a damp cloth. 15.2 As aluminium is used at the accessible surface of this equipment, ignition sources due to impact and friction sparks could occur, this shall be taken into account when the Obstruction Light is being considered for the application. 15.3 The glands incorporated into the Obstruction Lights are only suitable for fixed installations, the cable for which must be effectively clamped to prevent pulling and twisting. 16 ESSENTIAL HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS (EHSRs) The relevant EHSRs that are not addressed by the standards listed in this certificate have been identified and individually assessed reports listed in Section 14.2. The test shall be conducted between the live and neutral cores connected together and the earth/case using either of the following test criteria, no breakdown or flashover shall occur: i) ii) 17.3 Only the following type of cable gland shall be used in the construction of these Obstruction Lights, the entry threads of these glands shall be sealed to maintain the Ingress Protection rating of the Obstruction Light enclosure, IP54: • 17.4 1500 V r.m.s. (+5%, -0%) for 60 s, alternatavely, the test can be applied for a period of 100 ms at a test voltage of 1.2 times the specified value. 2100 V d.c. (+5%, -0%) for 60 s, alternatavely, the test can be applied for a period of 100 ms at a test voltage of 1.2 times the specified value.
